The Vice President, Kashim Shettima, will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the United Nations General Assembly’s (UNGA) 80th scheduled to hold in New York.
Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communications, made this known in a statement on Saturday.
According to Nkwocha, Shettima is billed to join other world leaders at the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations scheduled to hold from Monday, September 22 to Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the UN headquarters in New York.
Nkwocha further stated that the Vice President would participate in the high-level general debates from Tuesday, September 23 to Sunday, September 28.
“The VP will also deliver Nigeria’s National Statement on Wednesday, September 24, between 3:00 pm and 9:00 pm, New York time,” Nkwocha stated.
The Nigerian Vice President is also expected to attend a special event on climate for Heads of State and Government to be hosted by the UN Secretary-General on Wednesday, September 24, from 2pm to 6pm.
At the meeting, “Nigeria is expected to announce its new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement,” Nkwocha noted.
In addition, the Vice President will take part in the high-level roundtable of the Global Champions on Adequate and Affordable Housing, hosted by the President of Kenya, and hold several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of UNGA.
After the Assembly, Shettima will proceed to Frankfurt, Germany, where he is scheduled to meet with officials of Deutsche Bank before returning to Nigeria.
