Tinubu
The member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Yusuf Gagdi, has urged Nigerians to stop blaming President Bola Tinubu for the current economic hardship, insisting that state governors should be held responsible.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Mr Gagdi argued that governors were failing to complement the president’s reform efforts despite receiving significantly higher allocations from the federation account.
“The day he came into power, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made a bold statement: ‘Subsidy is gone.’ He did not stop there.
“A state that took N4 billion monthly when there was subsidy now takes between N10 and N14 billion,” he said.
“Why are Nigerians and state assemblies not questioning the performances of their governors? If the revenue given to each state has tripled by the efforts of Mr. President in fulfilment of his campaign promise, why are the governors not justifying that?”
The lawmaker also pointed to various federal interventions—including student loans, family support programmes, and SME initiatives—as evidence that Tinubu was fulfilling his promises.
“Can we say the infrastructures they (governors) develop are commensurate with the money they receive?” he asked.
Mr Gagdi maintained that Nigerians should demand accountability at the state level rather than directing their frustrations solely at the presidency.
