Several passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries on Thursday morning after two Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses collided near the Mangoro Bus Stop along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
Severely damaged buses blocked part of the BRT lane, with shattered glass and debris scattered across the road.
Eyewitnesses said the crash occurred around 8 a.m. when the two BRT buses, reportedly traveling from opposite directions, collided head-on along the dedicated lane. The impact left both vehicles extensively damaged, trapping several occupants inside.
According to sources, many of the injured passengers were on their way to work when the tragic incident occurred. Passersby and emergency responders quickly rushed to the scene, assisting in rescuing victims and transporting them to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.
It was further gathered that both drivers sustained severe and possibly fatal injuries, with witnesses recounting that one of them was trapped behind the steering wheel, making rescue efforts difficult.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the cause of the collision, but preliminary accounts suggest possible mechanical failure or human error.
Traffic on the busy Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway was temporarily disrupted as emergency workers cleared the wreckage and restored order.
