Lekki-Epe Expressway
The Lagos State Government has commenced rehabilitation works on the stretch of the Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway, covering the Admiralty Way Junction to Jubilee Bridge section (Ajah) in Eti-Osa Local Government Area and Eti-Osa East LCDA.
According to a statement on Thursday, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Infrastructure, Tokunbo Oyenuga, announced during a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had approved the immediate commencement of the project.
He noted that the rehabilitation aligns with the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to providing durable road networks and improving the overall quality of life for Lagos residents.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, said the government had prioritised the rehabilitation of the roads to reduce travel time.
Daramola said, “The immediate commencement further attests to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s resolve to mitigate the risks associated with the poor condition of the road, create a safer environment for all road users, facilitate the efficient movement of goods and services, which is crucial for the continued economic development of the state.
“It is a demonstration of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to continue to provide infrastructure that will support businesses, enhance trade and commerce.”
The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said given the presence of the Lekki Deep Sea Port, Dangote Refinery and many other industries in the area, “we expect that we will get a lot more traffic than we used to get.”
He described the Lekki Corridor as the fastest development corridor in all of Africa.
“The numbers we have here are bigger than the average, and we cannot take for granted that we will, from time to time, face challenges, but we must find a way to deal with them.
“This is why we are all gathered here to try and find the solution.”
