The Lagos State Government has approached the Supreme Court, seeking contempt proceedings against the National Assembly for proceeding with the Central Gaming Bill, which Lagos says violates a 2024 apex court ruling declaring federal lottery and gaming laws unconstitutional.
Filed by the state Attorney-General, Lagos argues that the bill’s clauses replicate the now-nullified National Lottery Act, exceeding the National Assembly’s constitutional powers. The state seeks issuance of Form 48 to warn of disobedience and enforce the court’s judgment.
