The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has once again reiterated that no police officer in the state is permitted to search the mobile phones of residents under any circumstance.
Speaking at a recent public function, CP Olohundare restated his directive in clear terms, declaring:
“No policeman should search your phone on the road… I stand by that order.”
Despite this, many Lagos residents say enforcement remains a major challenge, as officers on patrol often disregard such directives.
Reacting to the Commissioner’s renewed stance, some residents noted that issuing orders is not the problem getting officers to comply is.
One X user narrated his recent ordeal, alleging that he was extorted of N50,000 by officers who demanded access to his phone. According to him, after finding nothing incriminating, the officers still accused him of hiding “incriminating apps.”
The incident has further fueled concerns about police misconduct and the persistent abuse of power on Lagos roads.
