A festive night of Fuji music in Ondo State took a shocking turn when superstar Obesere and his band were attacked mid-performance at a burial ceremony in Okitipupa.
The incident, which unfolded on Friday at the Government Field, left one band member reportedly stabbed and expensive equipment badly damaged.
According to witnesses, the atmosphere had been lively until a group of suspected thugs burst into the venue and disrupted the event. Their sudden invasion sent the crowd into frenzy, forcing Obesere’s team to defend themselves from attack.
One musician suffered a stab wound during the scuffle, heightening panic among guests who quickly fled for safety.
In the wake of the mayhem, Okitipupa Local Government Chairman Hon. Andrew Ogunsakin, described the incident as an embarrassing moment for the community. He issued a strong condemnation, calling the attack “unfortunate” and “unacceptable.”
Also, Ogunsakin reaffirmed that the community would not tolerate any act capable of tarnishing its image or disrupting public peace.
To restore confidence among entertainers performing in the area, the LGA Chairman pledged that there will be no future disruptions at events. He pledged swift action, promising to engage Obesere directly while ensuring the matter is fully investigated.
