President Bola Tinubu has approved the composition of Nigeria’s delegation to the U.S.-Nigeria Joint Working Group, aimed at strengthening cooperation to address the country’s security challenges.
Malam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), will head the Nigerian team, supported by representatives from key security and policy institutions.
Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed the appointments in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, noting that the delegation follows recent high-level engagements in Washington, D.C., led by the NSA.
The team includes Minister of Foreign Affairs Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Defence Abubakar Badaru, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Bernard Doro.
Senior security officials such as Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Amb. Mohammed Mohammed, and Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun are also part of the delegation.
Ms Idayat Hassan from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and Mr Paul Alabi of the Nigerian Embassy in the U.S. will serve as the delegation’s secretariat.
President Tinubu urged the delegation to collaborate closely with U.S. counterparts to ensure smooth implementation of all agreed initiatives, stressing the importance of partnership in tackling Nigeria’s security concerns.
