A senior Russian military officer, Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, has died following a car explosion in Moscow, Russian authorities confirmed on Monday.
Russia’s Investigative Committee said the general was k!lled after an explosive device planted beneath a vehicle detonated in the southern part of the capital. Officials said the incident occurred in the morning hours, and investigators were immediately dispatched to the scene.
According to the committee, Sarvarov served as head of the Armed Forces’ Operational Training Department, a role responsible for overseeing military training standards and operational readiness within Russia’s armed forces.
Authorities said several investigative lines are being pursued. One claim under examination, attributed by the Investigative Committee to preliminary assessments, is the possible involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. No evidence has been publicly presented to substantiate this claim.
Ukraine has not commented on the allegation as of the time of reporting.
Russian officials said forensic work and witness assessments are ongoing. No arrests have been announced, and investigators said the circumstances surrounding the explosion remain under investigation.
