Vice President Kashim Shettima has said that only “a fool hell-bent on a suicidal path” or “an outright imposter” would dare to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
Mr Shettima made the remark on Friday while speaking at the 15th National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Taunting opposition parties, the Vice President said modern elections are not won on social media platforms, nostalgia or what he described as empty rhetoric, stressing that political success requires far more than online popularity.
According to him, although democracy guarantees the right of every citizen to contest elections, the political reality ahead of 2027 is clear.
“Only a fool, hell-bent on a suicidal path, or an outright imposter can dare to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. But we are in a democracy, and people are free to contest elections,” Mr Shettima said.
He emphasised that electoral victories are secured through strong coalitions, credibility and conviction, not mere slogans or sentiments.
The Vice President added that with President Tinubu’s political experience and leadership, the ruling party remains firmly positioned ahead of the next general election.
“With the experience of our president as our shield, and the lessons of the past as our guide, I believe 2027 is not a gamble; it is a responsibility. By the grace of God, we shall have a renewable blessing,” he added.
Mr Shettima’s remarks come amid increasing political realignments and early positioning by opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
