A yet-to-be-identified officer of the Lagos State Police Command was on Wednesday captured on video begging for help as an irate mob accused him of theft, tearing his uniform and leaving him with visible injuries.
In the now viral footage obtained by SaharaReporters, the officer, with his uniform torn and his mouth bloodied, was surrounded by residents shouting “Ole! Ole!” (thief) as onlookers recorded the scene on their mobile phones.
Despite the officer’s pleas, the mob continued to interrogate him, with some insisting that he must explain his alleged involvement in the incident that triggered the confrontation.

A few other policemen were seen attempting to rescue him from the enraged crowd, but their efforts were met with resistance as tension escalated.
Reacting to the widely circulated video, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, said the command had launched an investigation to verify the circumstances and confirm the identity of the officer involved.
“The command has seen the viral video. We are investigating to determine the full circumstances and confirm the identity of the officer. Updates will follow soon,” she said.
