The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has expressed deep sorrow following two devastating midnight accidents that rocked Lagos in the early hours of Monday, December 8, 2025 one claiming two lives on the notorious Otedola Bridge inward Berger, and another leaving two persons critically injured near the UNILAG waterfront on the Third Mainland Bridge.
According to preliminary findings, the Otedola Bridge crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. when an unregistered vehicle carrying two occupants rammed into a moving, heavily-laden trailer at dangerously high speed. The impact was so severe that both the driver and passenger died instantly. In a troubling development, the trailer driver reportedly fled the scene with the vehicle immediately after the collision.
LASTMA’s 24-hour Night-Gang surveillance team stationed along the Otedola axis swiftly responded, securing the scene, evacuating the remains of the victims, and removing the wrecked vehicle to prevent secondary accidents. Officers of the Isheri Police Division later provided additional security support, while the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SHEMU) handled the formal evacuation of the bodies.
Just a few hours later, at about 5:00 a.m., another serious accident occurred on the Third Mainland Bridge, close to the UNILAG waterfront inward Lagos Island. The crash involved an empty tanker and a pure-water distribution van (SMK 67 XH), leaving two people with severe injuries. Emergency personnel from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) provided immediate first aid before transporting the victims to a nearby hospital for advanced treatment.
Despite the tragedies, LASTMA officers maintained strict traffic control on both corridors, ensuring the safety of motorists and preventing additional accidents.
