Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed all ministers and senior government officials to obtain presidential clearance before deploying police escorts for official duties. The directive was issued during Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House, Abuja.
Tinubu emphasized that security lapses often occur when police officers assigned to VIPs are redeployed without proper replacement arrangements. He stressed the need for tighter coordination among security agencies to prevent such vulnerabilities.
“I have told the Inspector-General of Police, and I hope the Minister of Police Affairs is here to implement the directive. If you have any security concern due to the nature of your assignment, contact the IGP and get my clearance,” the president stated.
The president also ordered the Minister of Interior to work with the IGP and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to fill gaps created by officers deployed for special duties. He warned that no community or government office should be left exposed due to reassignment of personnel.
Tinubu further instructed the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the Department of State Services (DSS) to review Nigeria’s security architecture and implement necessary adjustments to address rising threats nationwide.
He acknowledged that certain government officials remain highly vulnerable and called for improved protection measures, including possible arming of forest guards to boost community security.
Additionally, Tinubu tasked Vice President Kashim Shettima with engaging the National Economic Council (NEC) on reviving grazing reserves and expanding ranch development as part of ongoing livestock reform.
