Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), less than 24 hours before the party’s scheduled governorship primary.
His exit comes amid a worsening factional crisis in the state chapter, which had already forced the Osun PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi, to announce that the primary might not hold as planned.
Bisi said the governor was no longer pursuing the party’s ticket due to the internal rift.
However, a separate letter from the PDP national secretariat insisted that the primary would proceed on Tuesday at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo.
Adeleke’s resignation letter, dated November 4, 2025 but surfacing on Monday evening, was addressed to the chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede.
In the letter, he attributed his decision to the unresolved leadership crisis at the national level of the party.
“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party, I hereby resign my membership with immediate effect,” he wrote, while appreciating the PDP for the platform that produced him as senator and later as governor.
