Nigerian actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has ignited fresh debate on relationships and infidelity, asserting that women cheat more than men but are far more discreet about it.

The outspoken media entrepreneur made the remarks during a recent episode of her popular Toke Moments podcast, where she shared candid views on cheating, gender dynamics, and relationship expectations.

According to Makinwa, cheating is often framed as a male-dominated behaviour, a narrative she believes is misleading and unfair.

“Cheating is not a dealbreaker for me, but it comes with a caveat,” she said.

She clarified that her stance should not be misconstrued as promoting infidelity.

“When I say it, some people think that I am encouraging cheating. No. As I grow older, I realised that it is not just men who can cheat. Why are we making these men feel so special as if it is only them?”

Makinwa argued that women often have more opportunities to cheat, largely because they are typically the recipients of attention, rather than the pursuers.

“Do you know how easy it is for a woman to cheat? It is even easier for us. But men will spend money, efforts and time to cheat.

“But we, we are the ones receiving. It is easier for women to cheat.”

She further suggested that restraint, rather than lack of opportunity, is what keeps many women faithful.

“A woman not cheating is not because she cannot cheat, it is probably because she has one thing you lack — strength.”

Taking the conversation further, the podcast host claimed that women are often more discreet when they cheat, making their actions less visible compared to men.

“Women cheat more, but they know how to hide it,” she added.

Makinwa also referenced familiar relationship dynamics, including emotional closeness at the workplace.

“You know, we have work boyfriends,” she said, hinting at how emotional infidelity can develop subtly.

Her comments have since sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians divided over her claims, particularly her assertion that cheating should not automatically end a relationship.
