Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has cautioned women against accepting free rides from strangers, warning that the practice exposes them to “one-chance” criminal activities and other security risks.
The police chief gave the warning while addressing public safety concerns in Abuja, noting a resurgence of crimes linked to unsuspecting victims who accept lifts from unknown persons, especially in unregistered vehicles.
According to the commissioner, criminals often disguise themselves as helpful motorists before robbing, abducting, or assaulting their victims. He urged residents, particularly women and young people, to remain vigilant and prioritize their safety when commuting.
The CP also advised commuters to use trusted transportation services, verify vehicles before boarding, share trip details with family or friends, and report suspicious movements to the nearest police station.
He reassured residents of the FCT of the police command’s commitment to intensifying patrols and intelligence-led operations to curb “one-chance” activities across the city.
