Born on July 23, 1917, in Ikorodu, Lagos, into the Lasunwon Royal Family.
Attended CMS Grammar School, Lagos, before studying Law in London.
Began his career in the Nigerian Customs Service.
Became a prominent lawyer and was later recognized as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
Active member of Nnamdi Azikiwe’s NCNC and later involved with the Nigerian People’s Party (NPP).
Served as the first Deputy Mayor of Lagos.
Appointed as the first Nigerian Federal Minister of Information, Broadcasting, and Culture, helping shape Nigeria’s early post-independence communication policies.
Nicknamed the “Ikorodu Genius” for his political and intellectual contributions.
Imprisoned briefly after the first military coup in 1966.
Returned to legal practice and became a respected Yoruba chief.
Older brother of the popular musician and entertainer Bobby Benson.
