Pastor Chris Okafor
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to investigate multiple sexual misconduct allegations against Chris Okafor, Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries.
The directive follows growing public outrage triggered by allegations circulating widely on social media. Several women, including Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, have accused the cleric of sexual misconduct and related improprieties.
Pastor Okafor stepped down from pastoral duties on New Year’s Day as the controversy intensified. During a church service last Sunday, he publicly apologised to Ogala, kneeling on the pulpit and admitting to past “mistakes” while asking for forgiveness.
The development comes weeks after the pastor’s wedding to a new bride, identified simply as Pearl, on December 16, 2025. The ceremony was attended by several prominent clerics.
Earlier, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, had said the police could not arrest the cleric because no formal petition had been submitted by any of the alleged victims. She also stated at the time that she was not aware of any official complaint against Okafor.
However, following renewed enquiries on Saturday night, Adebisi confirmed on Sunday that the Commissioner of Police had ordered the SCID to invite the pastor for questioning and summon the alleged victims for interviews.
“The CP has directed the SCID to invite the pastor for investigation, despite the fact that no one has formally come forward to report,” Adebisi said.
She added that witnesses would also be invited to provide statements to aid the investigation. Adebisi further disclosed that she personally contacted a YouTuber who interviewed some of the alleged victims to obtain direct links to the witnesses.
The allegations first surfaced on December 14 when Ogala posted emotional videos on Instagram, accusing the pastor of engaging in a sexual relationship with her between 2017 and 2025. She alleged that Okafor repeatedly promised to marry her before eventually marrying another woman.
Ogala also accused the cleric of sharing her explicit photos and videos without consent, contributing to the collapse of her previous marriage, and causing her emotional and financial distress. She shared photos, screenshots of conversations, and videos which she claimed showed attempts to induce her to withdraw the allegations.
Through her lawyers, the actress later demanded ₦1 billion in damages, alleging threats, intimidation, arrest, and detention following her public accusations.
As the controversy widened, other women — including the pastor’s former wife, Bessem Okafor — also made allegations ranging from infidelity and manipulation to physical assault.
However, some church members have dismissed the claims, describing them as attempts to extort money from their pastor. The investigation remains ongoing.
