Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law at Lagos House, Ikeja, formally unveiling the state’s N4.44 trillion Budget of Shared Prosperity.
The governor said the 2026 budget is designed to deepen inclusive growth, accelerate infrastructure development and improve the quality of life of residents across the state.
A breakdown of the budget shows that N2.3 trillion, representing 52 per cent of the total outlay, has been earmarked for capital expenditure, while N2.1 trillion, or 48 per cent, is allocated to recurrent expenditure.
According to the state government, the budget places strong emphasis on building a human-centric city, delivering modern and resilient infrastructure, promoting a thriving economy and ensuring effective, accountable governance.
The 2026 fiscal plan is aligned with the T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda and its monitoring framework, which serves as the strategic roadmap for the Sanwo-Olu administration’s development priorities.
Officials noted that the capital-heavy structure of the budget reflects the government’s commitment to sustained investments in key sectors, while maintaining fiscal balance and service delivery.
The signing of the budget marks the beginning of its implementation across ministries, departments and agencies, as the state targets shared prosperity and long-term development for Lagos residents.
