U.S President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States has carried out a “large-scale strike” against Venezuela and captured President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.
In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the operation was conducted in coordination with U.S. law enforcement agencies and that Maduro and his wife were flown out of Venezuela.
“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country,” Trump wrote.
Trump added that further details would be released at a news conference scheduled for 11:00 a.m. EST at Mar-a-Lago, his Florida residence.
He did not disclose how the alleged capture was carried out or where Maduro has been taken.
The Venezuelan government has not confirmed the claim, and there has been no independent verification from U.S. authorities as of the time of filing this report.
The United States has long accused Maduro of leading an international drug trafficking network—allegations the Venezuelan leader has consistently denied. Washington previously announced a $50 million reward for information leading to his arrest.
In recent months, a significant U.S. military buildup in the region had fueled speculation about potential action against Maduro’s government, with analysts suggesting it could encourage internal defections.
Trump later reiterated on Truth Social that the news conference would take place at 11:00 a.m. EST (16:00 BST).
