Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has said he may soon be arrested by security operatives over his outspoken criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Mr El-Rufai made the claim during an interview with BBC Hausa on Wednesday, alleging that several of his close associates had already been detained.
“They have arrested at least four people who worked with me in Kaduna, so it is only a matter of time before they arrest me too. I know they will come for me,” he said.
The former governor accused the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of targeting opposition figures and using state institutions to harass perceived critics.
“When you are in the APC, nobody arrests you, but once you pitch your tent with the opposition, they begin to persecute you on frivolous allegations,” Mr El-Rufai alleged.
He further claimed that many politicians defecting to the APC were doing so out of fear of intimidation rather than conviction, though he did not provide specific evidence to support the assertion.
There has been no official response from the Federal Government or the APC to Mr El-Rufai’s claims as of press time.
