The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Dayo Lajide, on Tuesday embarked on a facility tour of the Folarin Coker Staff Clinic at the State Secretariat, Alausa, as part of her ongoing familiarisation visits since assuming duty, reaffirming government’s commitment to safeguarding the health and productivity of public servants.
Dr. Lajide, who inspected all departments and units within the clinic under the Directorate of Staff Health Services, said the visit was aimed at assessing firsthand how civil servants are being cared for and to ensure optimal service delivery at the facility.
“The purpose of this afternoon’s visit around the staff clinic is to go around and see how our staff are being well taken care of,” she said, noting that access to the clinic was made possible for all civil servants in Lagos State through the gesture of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. “Services here are free, and we encourage our staff to be on ILERA EKO, the health insurance scheme.”
She listed the wide range of services available at the clinic, including dental care, eye clinic services, general outpatient care, physiotherapy, laboratories, lying wards and pharmacy services, describing the facility as comprehensive and staff-friendly. “We encourage them to please make sure they use this,” she added, stressing that productivity improves when staff enjoy good health.
The Permanent Secretary further revealed that the clinic operates a fully paperless Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system. “Interestingly, we have been able to set the clinic up on EMR. We don’t use any papers here anymore. We’re totally on electronic medical records,” she said, explaining that the system enhances efficiency, confidentiality and continuity of care.
Dr. Lajide noted that minor ailments are promptly managed at the clinic, while more complex cases are referred seamlessly to the State’s general hospitals, assuring staff that the government remains intentional about their wellbeing as a pillar of effective public service.
In his remarks, the Director, Staff Health Services, Dr. Abdulrasheed Kolade, said the Directorate is specifically mandated to safeguard and promote the wellbeing of Lagos State public servants, operating from the centrally located Folarin Coker Staff Clinic within the Secretariat.
According to him, the facility is designed as a “one-stop shop” for the State’s workforce, offering clinical services such as emergency care, oral health, ophthalmology in collaboration with the Blindness Prevention Programme, physiotherapy, laboratory diagnostics including digital X-ray, pharmacy and ambulance services.
Kolade added that beyond clinical interventions, the clinic emphasizes preventive and lifestyle services to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases through annual medical screenings, cancer screenings, nutritional counselling, health education, family planning and the Lagos State Wellness Centre (LASWEL), which provides mental health and stress management support. “When our public servants thrive, Lagos thrives,” he stated.
The visit forms part of Dr. Lajide’s structured familiarisation tour across directorates, departments and agencies under the Ministry since her assumption of office as Permanent Secretary, following her redeployment to the Ministry of Health.
Health workers at the clinic expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as encouraging and morale-boosting, while pledging continued dedication to delivering quality, prompt and holistic care to the State’s workforce.
The Folarin Coker Staff Clinic remains a strategic component of the Lagos State Government’s health architecture, supporting the administrative engine of government by ensuring that its workforce remains healthy, resilient and productive in driving the vision of a Greater Lagos.
