Late Ifeanyi Azuazu
Gunmen believed to be members of a cult have decapitated Ifeanyi Azuazu, the President of the Omoku Youth Federation, in the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, and fatally shot his aide, Chigozie Oluwu.
The attack took place around 6 PM on Thursday when approximately seven assailants invaded a well-known bar on Ogolo Street, near Palace Road in Omoku town.
According to reports, the attackers arrived in two vehicles, confronted the Youth President, and forced him into a car.
Oluwu, his aide, tried to intervene and was shot dead on the spot.
The assailants then kidnapped Azuazu and drove him away to an undisclosed location.
The incident triggered panic among locals and bystanders, prompting many to flee for safety while shop owners quickly closed their businesses.
A viral video captured local youths helping the police and security forces in loading Oluwu’s body into an open patrol vehicle.
On Friday afternoon, a local vigilante group found Azuazu’s headless body in the bushes.
The ONELGA Security and Planning Advisory Committee has confirmed the murders.
Godnews Nkem, the Public Relations Officer for OSPAC, stated, “Chigozie was shot by the gunmen before they took Ifeanyi Azuazu.
“Thanks to intelligence reports and the efficiency of OSPAC security, we located the lifeless and decapitated body of Ifeanyi Azuazu in the bush.”
While denouncing the attack, OSPAC urged residents to stay calm and allow the police, the Department of State Services, and other security agencies to conduct their investigations.
Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the event, labeling it as cult-related.
She stated, “Yes, I can confirm the incident. It was related to cult activities. The cultists invaded the area, killed one person, and kidnapped the youth president.
“Regrettably, the headless body of the youth president was found today (Friday).
“The Commissioner of Police has mandated a comprehensive investigation to capture the culprits and ensure they are brought to justice.”
