The body of an unidentified teenager was discovered on Thursday in the swimming pool at the University of Ibadan.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, who confirmed this in a statement on Saturday, said the report of the incident was received from the institution’s Chief Security Officer, who informed the police that the body of the victim, aged between 14 and 15 years, was sighted on the surface of the swimming pool earlier that day.
“Detectives promptly visited the scene, where preliminary observations revealed that the body had been removed from the pool and placed beside it.
“Blood was observed oozing from the mouth and nose, with slight bruises on the nose.
“Items suspected to belong to the deceased, including a pair of shoes and a shirt, were found close to the pool, while blood stains were also observed within the pavilion area,” the PPRO disclosed.
Ayanlade said that the victim’s body was taken to the State General Hospital, Adeoyo, Ibadan, where he was confirmed dead on arrival and subsequently deposited at the mortuary.
He stated further that the Command has commenced a thorough investigation into the case, which is suspected to be murder, in order to unravel the circumstances surrounding it.
He urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information as investigations are ongoing.
