NRS letter
The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has reportedly sealed the offices of fintech company OPay in both Lagos and Abuja over alleged tax violations.
According to notices placed on the premises, the enforcement action is linked to alleged non-compliance with Value Added Tax (VAT) and Company Income Tax obligations under the recently enacted Nigeria Tax Act 2025.
The notices indicate that the offices cannot be reopened until authorised clearance is granted by the NRS, suggesting the fintech firm must resolve outstanding tax compliance issues before operations at the affected locations can resume.
OPay, a major digital payment platform widely used across Nigeria for transfers, bill payments, and merchant services, has not yet issued an official statement regarding the development.
The move signals increased enforcement of the new tax regime introduced under the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, which expands oversight on companies operating within Nigeria’s digital and financial services sector.
More details are expected as the situation develops.
