Football icon and former Super Eagles midfielder, Henry Nwosu has passed on at 62 in the early hours of Saturday March 14, at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja, Lagos.
He had been receiving treatment in the intensive care unit since Wednesday.
Nwosu’s death comes days after Nigerian football lost another iconic figure. Former Super Eagles coach Adegboye Onigbinde, who led Nigeria to the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea, died on March 9 at the age of 88.
He was the youngest member of Nigeria’s victorious 1980 African Nations Cup squad, and scored the only goal for Nigeria at the 1980 Olympics.
He also played in the 1982, 1984 and 1988 tournaments. The midfielder was known for his vision, creativity and technical ability, and went on to become a prominent figure in Nigerian domestic football. May his soul rest in peace
