The new wife of Aboy, the adopted son of Chibuzor Chinyere, the general overseer of Omega Power Ministry (OPM), has revealed her decision to marry him.
In a video that has since gone viral, the woman described her choice as a “sacrifice” made in response to what she believes was divine instruction.
The wedding took place days after a controversy sparked by Chinyere, who had offered financial incentives to any woman willing to marry Aboy.
His initial announcement, in which he stated that a prospective bride “must not be autistic,” drew widespread criticism for being transactional and insensitive.
Aboy, who is autistic, was described by the cleric as being unable to speak or fully comprehend his physical development, including his sexual urges.
Following the backlash, Chinyere issued an apology, explaining that his actions were motivated by concern for Aboy’s well-being.
On Sunday, the cleric announced that the marriage had taken place, sharing photos from the ceremony on Facebook.
He had disclosed that the bride, a single mother of three, would receive a N10 million wedding gift, a house, an overseas vacation, and a promise of N20 million after 10 years if Aboy is still alive.
Speaking after the ceremony, the bride said she had initially not been interested in the proposal. She stated that she changed her mind after experiencing what she called a divine prompting.
“By the grace of God, I am a member of OPM. When Daddy made the announcement, I didn’t show interest. But a few days later, I felt led by the Spirit to accept,” she said.
She characterised the union as a spiritual calling, adding, “It is a sacrifice… When I think about the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, nothing is too big for me to do for God. I will care for him as my husband and also like a child”.
The woman also said she had previously rejected other marriage proposals, choosing instead to wait for what she believed was God’s direction.
