Rotimi Salami, the Nollywood actor, has opened up about his relationship with his late colleague Allwell Ademola and the circumstances surrounding her death.
Ademola passed away in December last year at the age of 49 after suffering a heart attack at her home. She was buried in Lagos on January 9.
In a recent interview with Oyinmomo TV, Salami revealed that although Ademola had an existing health condition, her death was caused by a sudden cardiac arrest.
He described her as someone who took her health very seriously, a trait well known to those close to her.
According to Salami, Ademola always carried her inhaler whenever she stepped out. He noted that her cardiac arrest was unexpected, adding that “it was simply her time to go.”
“It is simple. It is cardiac arrest. And that could happen to anyone,” he said.
The only thing is that she is asthmatic and she does not joke with her health. Her inhaler is always with her.
“I just believed it was her time to pass.”
Salami also addressed rumours that he and Ademola were romantically involved. He recounted how the late actress once asked if he was bothered by the gossip, and he told her he wasn’t.
However, the filmmaker admitted he would have been willing to distance himself from her if his wife had expressed discomfort.
“There was a time she called me and asked if I was aware of the rumour people are peddling around about us. I told her I did not hear about it. And truly I do not listen to people,” he said.
“It was until I got into the Yoruba movie industry that I started mingling with people.
”I told Allwell okay. She said was I going to say only okay? And I told her yes. She asked me if I was not worried. I then replied her that why should I be worried? She said she was concerned about my wife.
”I told her if my wife says she was not confirmable with our relationship, I would withdraw. Because she is the only person I am answerable to.”
In January, one of Ademola’s neighbours provided a detailed account of how the actress passed away.
