The UNICEF Nigeria and the Federal Government have launched the Generation Unlimited Nigeria (GenU 9JA) National Secretariat to expand opportunities for young people across the country.
The Secretariat, inaugurated on March 31, 2026, is domiciled in the Office of the Vice President of Nigeria, a move seen as a demonstration of increased government commitment to youth-focused development initiatives.
Describing the development as a milestone, UNICEF said the initiative aims to connect millions of young Nigerians to education, skills acquisition, and economic opportunities.
Since its inception in 2021, Generation Unlimited Nigeria has reportedly reached over 11 million youths across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, providing access to digital skills, employment pathways, and civic engagement platforms, with a focus on young women and marginalised groups.
With a target of impacting 20 million youths by 2030, the newly established Secretariat is expected to drive the next phase of the programme.
The initiative is co-led by the Office of the Vice President and UNICEF under a Public-Private-Youth Partnership framework.
The Secretariat will serve as a coordination and integration hub, bringing together government ministries, private sector players, development partners, and youth groups to strengthen policies and scale interventions in youth empowerment.
Key focus areas include skills development, employment, entrepreneurship, and digital inclusion.
UNICEF Nigeria said it would continue to provide technical support and system expertise to enhance learning-to-earning pathways, particularly through digital education and employability programmes driven by data.
Generation Unlimited Nigeria is a youth-focused platform targeting Nigerians aged 10 to 24, designed to ease the transition from education to employment, and has partnered with over 40 organisations nationwide to deliver its objectives.
