President Bola Tinubu says Nigeria is better off economically when juxtaposed with other African countries.
Tinubu spoke on Friday at a civic reception in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, after inaugurating a handful of projects.
The president said his administration is aware of the economic pressures confronting Nigerians.
He directed the ministries of finance and budget, alongside the head of service, to propose measures to mitigate the impact of global developments.
“Yes, I hear you from various angles of the economy. The fuel prices are biting hard,” he said.
“But look around. Let’s thank God that we are better off, listening to what is happening in other African countries, what they are going through.”
Tinubu stated that his administration would continue to explore ways to alleviate hardship.
“This is a government that cares. We will look at the numbers with the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning,” he said.
He added that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains committed to improving the welfare of citizens.
“Regardless of their shenanigans, the All Progressive Congress (APC) believes that the people deserve to see governance translated into roads, bridges, power, jobs, and real opportunities that affect human beings,” he said.
“We are all working hard. The projects that I commissioned today demonstrate and testify to an immutable truth: Development advances further, faster when the federal government and the state government work in partnership and towards a shared purpose.”
Tinubu commended Douye Diri, Bayelsa governor, for executing infrastructure projects.
“Douye, you’ve done a great job. I have commissioned some projects, very transformative projects,” he said.
“The bridge, linking communities and the dual carriageways, create opportunities, jobs, and hope for our nation. Thank you for that commitment, and thank you for being a very progressive governor.”
Tinubu said his administration would continue to partner with state governments, noting that such collaboration would drive development and job creation.
The president also reaffirmed his commitment to improving power supply, adding that his administration would ensure energy sufficiency for national development.
Tinubu observed a minute’s silence for fallen soldiers and late former governor of Bayelsa state, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.
Earlier, Diri said the projects inaugurated would improve power supply and economic activity in the state.
He said the 60-megawatt gas-fired power plant would enhance electricity supply in Bayelsa.

“Your administration’s decisive policy interventions have paved the way for meaningful reforms in various sectors, including power, enabling us to deliver on our pledge of reliable, independent energy,” he said.
