The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Makurdi Zonal Office, on Monday arraigned a woman, Elizabeth Akaa, at the Benue State High Court.
Akaa was arranged on one count bordering on breach of trust and misappropriation of N9m belonging to the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employee, Guma chapter.
The charge read, “That you, Elizabeth Akaa, between 2016 and 2018, being entrusted with N27, 097,00 as the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employee, Guma chapter within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did commit breach of trust by dishonestly misappropriating N9m, thereby committing an offence punishable under section 313 of the Penal Code.”
She pleaded not guilty to the charge and the prosecuting counsel, G. G. Chia-Yakua requested a trial date.
However, counsel for the defendant, Otache Bako urged the vourt to grant her bail.
Justice M. A. Ikpambese granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N500,000,000.00 (Five Hundred Million Naira) with one surety in like sum.
She and adjourned the case till March 25, 2020.
