- Nine Persons have been convicted for Six Months for violating lockdown orders in Niger State.
The Chairman Of the Niger State Task Force on Covid-19, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, on Tuesday, stated that the convicted persons were ordered to pay fines of two thousand naira or serve six months imprisonment
The Chairman, Niger State Task Force on COVID-19, further explained that the mobile court is part of the implementation of the Executive Order earlier pronounced by the State Government.
“The conviction of the accused persons will serve as a deterrent to those that will defy the Executive Order, stressing that Government is serious in implementing to the latter all the restriction measures taken by Government”.
He also mentioned that the Niger state Government had also established mobile courts across the 25 Local Government areas of the State, to ensure enforcement and compliance to the Government’s directives.
The lead Counsel, Barrister Suleman Wushishi, disclosed that nine persons were prosecuted and convicted following the violation of Niger State COVID-19 Preventive, Containment and Emergency Order.
The Niger State Government, in North Central Nigeria, has already established COVID-19 Preventive, Contaminant and Emergency Order 2020 for the safety, security and public health of people in the State.
