In line with the directive of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu that all schools should fully reopen in Lagos State, the Executive Chairman, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Mr. Wahab Alawiye-King, on Monday, led members of LASUBEB staff on a monitoring exercise to some public primary schools across the State to ensure strict compliance with the COVID-19 safety protocols and management.
Alawiye-King, speaking during the monitoring exercise at St. Agnes Primary School, Maryland Primary School, Lagos State Model Nursery & Primary School, Bola Memorial Primary School and Ikeja Central Primary School, explained that school monitoring and inspection is a routine duty of the Board aimed at ensuring compliance with the State’s safety guidelines and protocols on reopening.
He noted that the effect of the pandemic on the education sector compelled the Board to create strategies at ensuring that all public schools adapt to the new normal and follow the safety measures initiated to curb the rate of infection in the State.
The Chairman said that the State Government has provided necessary materials for compliance with the safety protocols, adding that headteachers and teachers must ensure that pupils wear their facemasks, wash their hands and maintain physical distancing at all times.
While urging the school authorities to effectively monitor activities in their classrooms with necessary care and concern, he advised parents to encourage their wards to go to school with a nose mask or face shield.
“Charity begins at home. Parents should encourage their wards to go to school with a nose mask or shield, teach their wards the act of handwashing and the use of sanitisers”, he declared.
