The acting Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, has appealed to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund to prioritise the varsity in the Federal Government projects for public institutions.
Speaking on Monday during the visit of the board of trustees of TETFund to the Academic Publishing Centre, Ogunsola said having the centre for the Southwest geopolitical zone in UNILAG was an honour.
She said, “Having the publishing centre for the Southwest geopolitical zone in UNILAG is an honour. I thank the FG through TETFund for its investment in our University and urge you to please prioritise UNILAG being the first university in Nigeria to be established by an Act of Parliament.
“We look forward to the success of the Academic Publishing Centre as we collaborate with our sister institutions to raise the quality of scholarship and academia.”
Ogunsola also called on TETFund to assist in building the faculty of education and the Iconic building at the College of Medicine which would be high-rise projects, adding that the water table of the varsity land was high and so would need expensive foundations.
“For us to admit more students for medical programmes we require more space and the Iconic building with 12 floors as well as herbarium will allow us to do this. We believe that this will allow us to attract more staff and international students, boost the science and further increase our ranking,” Ogunsola said.
The chairman, TETFund board of trustees, Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, said the visited was to find out if TETFund had impacted the institutions in the country positively.
