ATCIS President Bilesanmi Applaud Buhari for Appointing  Bawa as EFCC Chairman ●By OLABODE ADEYERI

The National President, Association of Telephone, Cable TV and Internet Subscribers of Nigeria (ATCIS), Prince Sina Bilesanmi has commended President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate, and Federal House of Representatives  for confirming a Young, Vibrant and member of the Association Telephone,  Cable TV and Internet Subscribers of  Nigeria, Mr.
Abdulrasheed Bawa as the Substantial Chairman of the Country’s Anti-graft Agency,  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

During an Interview with Citizen NewsNG/Citizen Magazine, Bilesanmi, who have served as Youth Ambassador for ten years at Kosofe Local Government Youth Movement, Lagos under umbrella body of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Said: ” I must sincerely commend President Muhammadu Buhari for making the right choice at this time. He positioned a Honest, Knowledgeable, Thorough-bred  Professional and Intelligence Operative with long years of experience in the fight against financial crimes in Nigeria and overseas.

“The Injection of Young Adults into Governance, Administrative Positions and Participatory mechanism of the Buhari’s Administration  renewed the hope of Nigerian Youths as Emerging and Future Leaders”,  Bilesanmi Noted.

He also urged President Buhari to intensify his efforts to  engage more Reliable and Productive youths across the country who are willing to serve their fatherland, Nigeria.

Speaking On behalf of the Association of Telephone, Cable TV and Internet Subscribers across the Six Geopolitical Zones, Bilesanmi however charged his Associate and member of ATCIS, the newly appointed EFCC Chairman, to perform his new assigned responsibilities with utmost zeal and  dedication to reduce financial and other related crimes to the bearest minimum.  He also advised the EFCC Boss to continue to be a good Ambassador of the Nigerian youths.

Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa , the new Chairman of the EFCC, has about 16 years of experience on the Job. At 40, He is the youngest Career Operative to chair the Commission. Before his new appointment, the Kebbi-born operative worked as the Zonal Head of the EFCC in Lagos and Oyo States. He was born in Jega, Kebbi State, which also makes him the first person to be appointed as EFCC chairman from the North-West.

It is important to note that Bawa is the first career operative to head the EFCC. His appointment puts to rest agitation by “core EFCC staff” to have one of their own to head the commission. He served under all EFCC past chairpersons, starting with Nuhu Ribadu, who recruited the first set of civilians into EFCC (including Bawa) in 2005. The operative started work with EFCC from its Lagos office, after his recruitment in 2005. He went on to work at the headquarters in Abuja, and for a year in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

He was educated at the Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Economics in 2001 and master’s in International Relations and Diplomacy in 2012. He is a Deputy Chief Detective Superintendent, a position he was promoted to in 2016.

Bawa has led a number of key corruption and financial crimes investigations including the infamous case of former Petroleum Minister, Mrs Diezani Allison-Madueke, the case of former Niger State governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu and that of the Controversial crude oil swap. He was also involved in the investigation of petroleum subsidy fraud (2012-2015).

Bawa has headed EFCC zonal offices in Ibadan and Port Harcourt between June 2018 and December 2019. From Port Harcourt, Bawa was posted to Abuja as head of Capacity Development Division of the EFCC Academy, Karu. He was trained by the FBI, KPMG and many other institutions in the UK, United States and Nigeria.

Bawa, who was appointed by the President Muhammadu Buhari, on February 16, 2021, while he was on Grade Level 13 and a Deputy Chief Detective Superintendent. He has been promoted to the rank of Chief Detective Superintendent Grade Level 14.
