Eight persons were confirmed dead on Saturday and 36 others injured, after a trailer fell off from a flyover bridge on Osogbo-Ibadan road in Osun State.
The trailer, which carried kegs of palm oil and 61 males, was said to have lost control while ascending the bridge.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, policemen and officials of the Osun State Ambulance Service rushed to the scene to rescue the victims.
Kudirat Ibrahim, FRSC sector commander, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust.
She sympathized with the families of those who lost their lives and injured in the accident.
Speaking through Agnes Ogungbemi, the FRSC Public Relations Officer in the state, the sector commander said the Volvo trailer with registration KMC 35 ZJ fell sideways into the side drainage while ascending the flyover bridge, throwing off the kegs of palm oil over the passengers and killed eight of them in the process.
The injured victims were taken to Osun State University Teaching Hospital and the State Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo, while the dead victims were taken to the mortuary
