Africa Centre Of Excellence For Innovative And Transformative (ACEIT) STEM Education Laboratory
Lagos State University (LASU), has launched the Africa Centre of Excellence for Innovative and Transformative (ACEIT) STEM Education Laboratory at the school main campus in Ojo, Lagos.
According to a statement by the school Communication Officer Gbadegesin, Olanrewaju Daud, the building was inaugurated on May 6.
The Vice Chancellor, LASU, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello highlighted the significance of the project for the internationalization of the institution during her opening remarks.
She praised the efforts of the founding father of the Centre, Emeritus Prof. Peter Okebukola, for his contributions
“As I always maintained, this Africa Centre of Excellence is very critical to the achievement of our objective of internationalization and making our University the best in West Africa,” the Vice Chancellor stated.
She underscored the commitment of the university management to the goals and aspirations of the ACE-impact project, emphasizing the role of the Centre in capacity building for not just registered students of the centre but also includes students and staff of the university since its establishment in 2018.
Professor Olatunji-Bello commended the leadership of the Centre and highlighted its strong relationship with the University Management, noting that it has positively impacted the performance of the centre.
“Today as you heard from the Director, our performance in earning is almost 75 per cent. This improvement in earnings contributed very significantly to the completion of the building that is being inaugurated today. It is an aesthetically pleasing edifice strategically located beside the LASU-ACEITSE Building and I can say this is value for money. Indeed, I am pleased with the outcome of the project and the speed of its delivery,” she said.
The Vice Chancellor extended congratulations to the Director/Centre Leader of LASU-ACEITSE and the entire leadership for their remarkable achievement.
She concluded her speech by emphasizing that the facility serves as evidence of the University’s potential when everyone works towards a common goal with unity of purpose.
During his welcome address, the Director/Centre Leader of LASU-ACEITSE, Prof. Rasheed Sanni, expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and the University Management for their unwavering support towards the project and the center. On behalf of the leadership, he conveyed appreciation to the Vice Chancellor for the successful completion of the project.
Continuing with the discussion about the project, he highlighted the Vice Chancellor’s consistent support and intervention, which facilitated the prompt completion of the project. He confidently stated that the center’s performance had reached 75%, emphasizing that the leadership would persist in their efforts to enhance the center’s performance.
Prof. Sanni pleaded that the Vice Chancellor to continue to support the centre, in order for it to record more successes.
Prof. Sanni urged students to utilize the STEM laboratory and other facilities to enhance their training in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses.
The inauguration ceremony also featured goodwill messages from Emeritus Professor Peter Okebukola and the National Coordinator of the ACE Impact Project in Nigeria, Dr. Joshua Attah.
With the ribbon cutting and plaque unveiling by the Vice Chancellor, the STEM Education laboratory was officially declared open, marking a significant milestone for LASU’s commitment to excellence in STEM education.
The ceremony was attended by principal officers of the university, including the Deputy Vice Chancellors, Registrar, Bursar, and University Librarian, as well as Deans, Directors, and Heads of Department. Leaders of the Centre and administrative staff were also present to witness the event
