Super Eagles Coach, Eguavoen
It is no longer news that the Super Eagles of Nigeria were held hostage at an Airport in Libya, without access to food and water for hours.
However, recounting on their bitter experience, the Caretaker Coach, Augustine Eguavoen, said; “Thanks to the Libyans for letting us go, but it was a horrible 18-20 hours of experience and we don’t want to go through that again.”
“We were held hostage, we could not have played this match under these circumstances.”
“We know how football can unite the entire world, but in this regard, for them to act like this, I cannot comprehend seriously.”
For those who don’t know, the Super Eagles are supposed to take on the Mediterranean Knights of Libya for the second leg of their African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match on Tuesday, but the team have pulled out of the game and returned to Nigeria on Monday evening due to the ill-treatment by the Libya Football Federation.
