The 2024/2025 UEFA Champions League Runner-up Inter Milan, are on the verge of securing a sensational move for Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, as tensions escalate between the Super Eagles star and his current club, Atalanta.
Despite having three offers rejected, the Nerazzurri remain determined to land the 2024 CAF Player of the Year, who is reportedly pushing hard for an exit from Bergamo after a stellar campaign that saw him lift the UEFA Europa League title with Atalanta.
According to Inter News IT, the 27-year-old winger has grown frustrated with Atalanta’s reluctance to sanction his departure, even after he submitted a formal transfer request. The club’s resistance has not only angered the player but intensified interest from Inter, who see Lookman as a key addition to their squad ahead of the new Serie A season.
In a move mirroring that of former teammate Teun Koopmeiners who forced his way to Juventus, Lookman has taken drastic steps to force a transfer. He has missed three consecutive training sessions, cleared out his locker, and refused to join Atalanta’s pre-season trip to Germany for a friendly against RB Leipzig.
Sources close to the player say Lookman is adamant about making the switch to the San Siro and has rejected all alternative offers outside of Italy, effectively leaving Atalanta with no choice but to negotiate with their Serie A rivals.
The Bergamo-based club is now expected to set a firm asking price of €50 million, with additional performance-related bonuses, as Inter prepare a fresh offer to finally seal the deal.
Lookman’s relationship with Atalanta appears irreparably strained, and his move to Inter could be confirmed in the coming days if both clubs reach consensus on the fee.
