Zara Bibi, a woman who was seven months pregnant, was brutally murdered and dismembered in Daska, Pakistan.
Her mother-in-law, Sughran Bibi, confessed to the crime, claiming Zara had used “witchcraft” to seduce her son.
Senior police officer Omar Farooq stated: “In her confessional statement, Sughran Bibi said that she suspected Zara of allegedly practising ‘witchcraft.’”
Besides, her son Qadir had started sending money directly to Zara in her bank instead of to his mother, Mail Online reports.
“The four suspects smothered Zara with a pillow while she was asleep. After that, they burnt her face and chopped off her body into dozens of pieces before dumping it in a drain in three sacks,” Farooq said.
Zara, 30, had been married to Qadir Ahmed for four years and was the mother of a three-year-old boy. The family had lived in Saudi Arabia before she returned to Pakistan two weeks ago.
Her father, Shabbir Ahmed, said he had not heard from her since 10 November, adding that her in-laws claimed she “left the house with jewellery and valuables.” Concerned, he reported her missing.
Police later found Zara’s body parts in three separate bags and arrested her mother-in-law Sughran, her daughter Yasmin, her grandson Hamza, and relative Navid.
A fourth suspect, Abdullah, has also been detained.
All suspects have confessed to the murder, and a case has been registered against them.
