An unidentified woman has abandoned her infant baby at the gates of Blessed Clinic, located in Oru Ijebu, in Ijebu North LGA, Ogun State.

The state’s Police Command is currently on the look-out for her.

According to a Punch Metro report, the less than 40-day old abandoned baby has been taken into the clinic for medical care by the clinic’s owner before contacting the Oru Police Division to file a report on the find.

Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, disclosed to reporters that investigations are ongoing to identify the mother of the child.

Odutola’s statement read, “The medical doctor in charge of the hospital alerted our division about the child. We have initiated an investigation into the matter, and the child is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.”

The practice of abandoning newborn infants is not unusual in Nigeria.
