The Scene Of The Explosion
No fewer than travellers have been reportedly killed by an Improvised Explosive Device, IED, along the Maiduguri-Damboa Road.
The IED was allegedly planted by Boko Haram terrorists on the road.
The road which was recently opened after years of abandonment passed through the Sambisa forest.
The incident was confirmed by a resident of Maiduguri, Lawan Maigana, on Saturday.
He said the victims of the attack include both civilian and military personnel.
Similar reports by Channels TV said the explosion happened while cars in a scheduled military-escorted convoy were transporting passengers from Damboa to Maiduguri.
“The road to my hometown, Damboa Local Government Area in Borno, has been dangerous and one of the riskiest roads in the country for years now. We’ve lost exceptional military staff and residents to the criminal elements called Boko Haram.
“And today, they planted explosives that claimed the lives of eight innocent individuals on the Maiduguri-Damboa road. This further justifies the call for the intensification of security measures to protect the lives and properties of the citizenry. May Allah protect us from being victimised by ungodly elements and rest the souls of the deceased”, Mr Maigana said.
