The Suspect, Liu Beixiang
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, on Monday arraigned a Chinese national, Liu Beixiang, before Justice Ayokule Faji of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, over alleged false information.
According to a statement by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Beixiang is facing a one-count charge of knowingly giving false information to an EFCC officer in December 2024, an offence that contravenes Section 16 (1) of the EFCC Act, 2004.
The defendant, also known as Lao Liu, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Prosecuting counsel Babatunde Sonoiki requested a trial date and asked that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility.
Defence counsel F.A. Dalmeda informed the court of a pending plea bargain application and a bail request, to which the EFCC had responded earlier in the day.
Justice Faji adjourned the case to June 23, 2025, for a report on the plea bargain and ordered that Beixiang be remanded in a correctional centre.
