The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned recent comments made by former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, during a political gathering of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kosofe Local Government Area.
Aregbesola, who once served under the APC-led Federal Government, had accused the APC, along with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), of failing Nigerians, while urging support for the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Lagos APC described Aregbesola’s remarks as “disappointing” and a “betrayal of trust,” accusing him of political desperation disguised as a call for change.
“It is ironic that a man who benefited from the goodwill and platform of the APC for over two decades from his days as Commissioner in Lagos to Governor of Osun and later a Federal Minister now denounces the same party,” the statement read. “If the APC has failed, then Aregbesola must take responsibility for his role in governance instead of seeking cheap political relevance.”
The party dismissed ADC’s proposed “new deal” as “recycled rhetoric” without a proven track record, ideology, or cohesive leadership, insisting that Lagos remains a “shining example” of progressive governance in infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, and technology-driven reforms.
Lagos APC further stressed that while political ambition is legitimate, it must be pursued with loyalty and integrity. “Politics without gratitude is a dangerous path that leads to irrelevance,” the statement added.
Reaffirming its focus ahead of 2027, the party maintained that it is “united, focused, and determined” to continue delivering the dividends of democracy to Lagos residents, rejecting “falsehoods and political showmanship” aimed at misleading the public.
