The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Day parade earlier scheduled to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, October 1.
The decision was disclosed on Monday in a statement signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations.
“The Federal Government wishes to announce the cancellation of the Independence Anniversary parade, previously scheduled to mark the 65th Independence on Wednesday, 1st October. This cancellation does not diminish the significance of this milestone, as the government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm,” the statement read.
While expressing regret over any inconvenience the decision may cause, the government urged Nigerians to continue supporting President Bola Tinubu’s reforms. It also appreciated the understanding and cooperation of citizens, the diplomatic corps, and invited dignitaries.
