The Kaduna Anglican Diocese has announced the death of one of its priests, Venerable Edwin Achi, while in the custody of his abductors in the state.
Mr Achi and his wife, Sarah Achi, were abducted in October from their residence in the Nissi community of Chikun Local Government Area.
His death was confirmed on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Bishop of the Diocese, Most Revd Timothy Yahaya, who described the killing as a painful loss to both the family and the church.
“With a heavy heart and deep sorrow, the Diocese of Kaduna, Anglican Communion, announces the passing unto glory of Venerable Edwin Achi.
“Venerable Edwin, who was kidnapped alongside his wife on 28th October, has been confirmed dead.
“His transition is a painful loss to the entire Diocese, the clergy, the Church family, and all who were blessed by his faithful ministry, humble spirit, and unwavering devotion to the service of God,” the statement read.
The Diocese further disclosed that his wife and daughter are still being held by the kidnappers, and called for continued prayers for their safe release.
In honour of the deceased, the Diocese has cancelled a scheduled programme and declared a period of mourning.
Security agencies have yet to comment on the development as efforts to secure the release of the remaining victims continue.
