A major fire outbreak has been reported at the 22-storey Great Nigeria Insurance House located on Martins Street, Lagos Island, triggering a large-scale emergency response.
The fire started from an apartment on the 4th floor of the high-rise building before spreading upward to the 6th floor, raising concerns over the safety of occupants and nearby structures.
Emergency response teams were swiftly mobilised to the scene, with no fewer than six fire trucks and a skylift currently deployed to battle the inferno and prevent further spread.
Agencies on ground include the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service, the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), the Red Cross, and Lagos Response Unit (LRU) paramedics.
As of the time of filing this report, the number of casualties has not been confirmed. Recovery and rescue operations are still ongoing, while emergency officials work to bring the situation fully under control.
