Pastor Chris Okafor
The embattled General Overseer of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Pastor Chris Okafor, on Tuesday appeared before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Yaba, after initially failing to honour a police invitation issued for Monday.
His eventual appearance followed warnings from influential figures who reportedly advised him against ignoring a lawful summons.
The investigation stems from a dispute between Okafor and his estranged lover, Nollywood actress Doris Ogalla, and is currently being handled by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) at Zone 2 Command, Onikan.
Sources disclosed that Okafor initially disregarded the SCID invitation, believing the matter was already under consideration at the zonal command where he is listed as the complainant and Ogalla as the suspect.
“Some highly placed individuals saw reports that he ignored the police invitation and cautioned him on the consequences. That was why he later presented himself at the SCID in Yaba for questioning,” a senior police officer revealed.
The source confirmed that Okafor’s statement was obtained during the visit but noted that he was not detained due to the absence of a formal complainant at the Lagos Command.
“We made efforts to contact the alleged victims and even offered security and transportation, but none showed up,” the officer said.
He added that since a parallel investigation is already ongoing at Zone 2 with both a complainant and a suspect, the Lagos State Police Command would step aside to allow the zonal command to conclude its probe.
Nonetheless, police authorities stressed that the case remains open and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
The Lagos State Police Command had issued the invitation through a letter dated January 3, directing Okafor to report by 10 a.m. on Monday.
Following multiple allegations — including sexual misconduct, abuse of spiritual authority, and alleged involvement in murder — the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, ordered a comprehensive investigation.
The allegations gained public attention after Ogalla accused Okafor of breaking a promise to marry her and released audio and video recordings as purported evidence, sparking widespread public outrage.
Other accusers include Okafor’s Cameroonian ex-wife, who claims to have had four children with him, and several female church members, including three sisters who alleged they were hypnotised and impregnated by the cleric.

Ogalla further alleged that Okafor shared her nude images, destroyed her previous marriage, and played a role in her brother’s death. She also claimed the pastor offered her $10,000 to withdraw her allegations and shift blame to a rival cleric — an offer she said she rejected.

She has since filed a ₦1 billion lawsuit, alleging intimidation and threats following her brief detention by police.
After initially dismissing the allegations as a smear campaign, Okafor later admitted to some claims, apologised to his congregation, and announced his decision to temporarily step aside as senior pastor.
