Residents and motorists on Lagos Island were thrown into panic on Friday following a frightening accident involving a container-laden trailer on the popular Apongbon Bridge.

Eyewitnesses said the trailer reportedly lost control while in motion and crashed into a car on the bridge, crushing it in the process. The impact of the accident caused the heavy-duty vehicle to almost plunge off the bridge, leaving the container trailer dangerously suspended and hanging at the edge.

The incident triggered chaos in the area as residents, traders, and passersby screamed for help and urgently called on emergency agencies to intervene. Traffic movement around Apongbon Bridge was severely disrupted as onlookers gathered, fearing further collapse or secondary accidents.

As of the time of filing this report, the condition of the occupants of the crushed car could not be independently confirmed, while emergency responders were being awaited to secure the scene and prevent further casualties.

The accident has once again raised concerns over the movement of heavy trucks and container-laden trailers on Lagos roads, particularly on busy bridges within densely populated parts of the city.
