Iranian state media has confirmed that , Iran’s Supreme Leader, Khamenei was killed alongside his daughter in airstrikes reportedly carried out jointly by the United States and Israel.
In an emotional broadcast, state television announced his death and declared 40 days of national mourning across the country.
U.S. President described the operation as a success in a post on Truth Social, writing: “One of the most evil people in history is dead,” adding that the strike represented justice for both the Iranian people and Americans.
According to U.S. officials, the operation targeted a high-security bunker within the Supreme Leader’s palace compound in Tehran. Satellite imagery circulating online appears to show extensive structural damage to the site. Iranian reports claim Khamenei’s body was recovered from the rubble following precision strikes that began at approximately 9 a.m. local time.
Iranian media further reported that his daughter and grandchild were among those killed.
The statement said it had “eliminated” multiple senior Iranian defence officials in the coordinated assault. Among those reported dead are Defence Minister Amir Nasirzadeh and Revolutionary Guard commander Mohammad Pakpour. Some unconfirmed accounts suggest that up to 40 high-ranking officials may have been killed.
Earlier in the day, Iranian state outlets had dismissed reports of Khamenei’s death as “psychological warfare” by foreign adversaries. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi initially maintained that the Supreme Leader was alive, although he later failed to appear for a scheduled televised address.
Israeli Prime Minister called on Iranians to “take to the streets en masse” and described the moment as a “historic opportunity” for regime change.
President Trump also warned that “heavy and pinpoint bombing will continue, uninterrupted throughout the week or as long as necessary.”
Meanwhile, retaliatory Iranian drone and missile strikes have reportedly targeted U.S. military bases across the Middle East, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.
